Spring is in the air and that means one thing: swollen faces and stuffed up noses from being inadvertently trapped in a massive orgy with all the trees in the gulf coast.
And Anime Matsuri!
This year I wanted to make sure I covered the Lolita Fashion Show and I’m glad I did. John and Deneice have become quite efficient at outdoing themselves every year. My only regret is I couldn’t see the Lolita themed wedding for one of the guests. What I did capture was an impressive narrative staring Akira from Disacode plus the return of Reika.
The venue, Houston’s George R. Brown Convention Center, was slightly more sprawled due to unavoidable construction outside, renovations inside, and some dealings from convention center staff. Nonetheless, getting around wasn’t too difficult and abundance of food trucks was great too (even if the prices were slightly inflated).
The cosplay contest was nothing short of incredible this year with some truly world-class entries. The big winner will be sent to Anime Matsuri Hawaii to compete. Don’t think I can get press access to that.
Speaking of cosplay, the convention really went all out with setting up backdrops for photoshoots. This was especially helpful when the weather became less than cooperative.
