This time of year is wonderful. For the parts of the country that thaws out on time, it’s the season for race cars. Yes indeed, this past weekend was the kickoff For Lonestar Drift’s 2014 series. For once, Ryan was actually driving and not shooting, so it’s about time someone else took a shot at it.

Critical Mass Houston (or so)
CJ and I’ve ridden Critical Mass in the past but neither of us have actually made a post about it. It’s kind of silly that we haven’t when one considers the hilarious amount of drama that the local media generates the day following the last Friday of every month. For those who don’t know, Critical Mass is a congregation of Houston Cyclists who go for a bike ride and enjoy each other’s company. Haha, I’m kidding. The better way to drum up page views is to describe it as 34 million drunken hipsters running red lights, wasting tax payer money on Police escorts and making you late to your 9pm class with Faaaaabian.
RedBull Urban Rhythm & Gasoline Teahouse Meet
A couple of weekends ago RedBull Energy was in town and put on Urban Rhythm, an awesome BMX show set on a city block turned dirt/vert course colored up by many of Houston’s talented writers and painters. When the stage was complete, dozens of cyclists and extreme sports fans braved cold and muddy weather to glimpse some sweet jumps.
Formula D: “The Showdown” (Part 1)
Shots fired! Shots fired! I would yell out these words every time Mike Essa came diving into the long sweeper in his superbeast turbo bimmer and it would backfire like it was gang banging in Oakland. I’d then pause to pick stray bits of rubber off of my Lifeblasters tshirt, clean the front element of my 70-200, and then wait to pan on whoever would be next, wearing a grin so eager, it could only be described as blissful.
2013 LoneStar Drift: Round 3: “A Game of Cones”
I’m not usually one to make use of pop culture puns when subtitling things, but that’s probably because I need a +2 attribute to my clever wordsmithery trait. In any case, “A Game of Cones” was the real-deal, legitimate subtitle to the other weekend’s action packed day of tire slaying. I couldn’t find time to stay for the competition, but I was definitely there long enough to exchange a couple high-fives, greet some old faces and put my cameras to work.
Kicking It: With Joshua Steele (and his S13.4)
Today on Kicking It, I’m reintroducing a face from the drift community that briefly cameo’d in a post last year, Joshua Steele of NEVRSLO Motorsports. If you remember, I encountered Josh for the first time at Round 5 of 2012’s Lone Star Drift Pro Am series. Last we met, Josh was tearing up Gulf Greyhound Park in his ubermachine to close out the series with style. When all the smoke cleared, Mr.NEVRSLO had earned one of three coveted pro licenses for Formula D.
